Default Another unloved 365 GT 2+2 up for sale

It is sad to see stories like this. Dry stored for 30 years and now cleaned up for sale:

We are pleased to offer 1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 s/n 11805. This very well documented, low mileage, three owner Queen Mother is a Euro-spec car, built new for Greg Garrison, a wealthy American client and Ferrari collector. From new with US gauges but no side lights or emissions equipment. Build in 1968, so it's smog exempt almost everywhere. This 365 GT 2+2 is priced right in today's market at $82,500 O.B.O.
1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 Serial Number 11805
This beautiful Queen Mother has only 30,258 original miles, was unused and stored in Las Vegas for thirty years, and so is in remarkably good unrestored condition. From new in a very elegant Amaranto 19379 M (Burgundy) over a very straight body and now fitted with a black vinyl interior with dark red carpets. Just completed brakes, a major mechanical service, a cooling system and fuel system overhaul, and new Michelin Hydroedge 215/70/R15 tires. Has the correct period Voxson radio with eight track. Comes with the original tool roll and some tools, the jack and jack bag, the original manual and parts book and an aftermarket owner's book and shop manual. Needs a new hood pad, dash top covering and dedicated detail work to be a very nice Queen Mother. It has an strong engine and pulls like a freight train.
The 365 GT 2+2 was built for the sporting enthusiast with friends or children and gives the quintessential 1960s vintage Ferrari experience with the last of the curvaceous Pininfarina-bodied grand tourers, powered by the final iteration of the Colombo V-12 two-cam engine. The interior is roomy for two adults and two children for long distance touring. The 365 GT 2+2 is a smooth yet fast long distance traveler, as this car is equipped with air conditioning, power windows, power door vent windows and variable ratio power steering. This 365 GT 2+2 is priced right in today's market at $82,500 O.B.O.
If you have a similar Ferrari or other exotic you are looking to sell please email us at Sales@ferraris-online.com or call us at 949-646-6086.

Sad, 30 years of potential enjoyment down the drain What does such long storage do to this type of car?

A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course. That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mister F.

Nothing good. It will most likely look pretty but crumble to dust when you touch it. Cost to get it back to perfection is very likely to exceed $100k.

If the car was stored perfectly and run once in a while then you might get away with less, but I wouldn't count on it. As mentioned before, my BB drove only 1,500 miles in 20 years, was restored in 2007-2008 and now I'm still spending more 80% of the buying price just to get the mechanics right. New interior and paint comes on top of that.

I meet a gentlemen that collects cars. His collection consist of more then 500 cars and 150 of those cars will never ever be driven again. He takes them to a special warehouse that had build in Vegas. This warehouse was build underground and has humidity and climate control features. Once a car gets there, the battery gets removed, the fuel is removed, and all other liquids get drained.
He has a Lambo Reventon that will never see the road again. All cars in that collection have less then 100 miles and most less then 10 miles on the clock.

Sounds like a giant 1:18 diecast collection, but with REAL cars!

current Ferraris: 1995 F355 Spider, 2000 360F1 Modena

yes they are real cars. On the beginning of year, I used to work in a Chevy dealership and I prepped all the ZR1's that came in. He bought two of them. One for the collection and one as a daily driver. I didn't believe it when he told that one of the ZR1's wouldn't hit the road. I felt bad for the car. It left with 2 miles on the clock.
He had the car loaded up on his truck. The truck is Freightliner that is tricked out from the front to the back, the trailer that can carry up to 4 cars and in the front there is a room with really big tv, sofas tables. Really nice stuff. This men is loaded. He owns a 1/4 mile of the Vegas Strip.

this will come down to what kind of storage the car had - the combustion chambers are either rusty or they aren't. It needs to be run for a bunch of miles and then given a compression test which will tell the owner if the motor needs a tear down or not. These old motors really, really need to be run on a regular basis. Once re-built and properly set-up, a Colombo v-12 should go and go and go . . .

looks like at least some of the back-from-the-dead work has been started by Sheehan, but I have to believe that the entire fuel delivery system is completely turned to lacquer, carbs need a complete rebuild, etc. Same w/ brakes, seized calipers?

original paint looks good from 15 feet, though

full disclosure, Sheehan sold my queen a couple of months ago. He is the man.

hope you have only short term regrets on that, Bryan....
hope all is going well

Sheehan offered me that Straman Cabriolet 456 couple weeks ago. I would sell both Ferraris for that one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but, can't do as both in shop and can't sell an unsorted Ferrari: Responsibilities.

Rik - it has been ok, actually. Dad and I are more project people than polishers, but it does take some adjusting to the notion that I can't just jump into a cherry vintage V-12 to go to for a blast or a cars&coffee. . . .

The next project beckons, however, as soon as I get my garage interior completely fitted out (4-post lift, etc.) since I am in between projects.

You'll be able to find me on that one over on the Alfa BB in the "limited production, SS" section. I am BryanP over there as well.

Thanks for the insight. I saw the ad for the 365 and loved it. The consequences of it being stored for a few decades would not have been the first point of consideration for me, i.e., I was enticed more by the acquisition price of the car. These are the things we learn at FL...

Cheers!

Someday another project will raise its beck-n-call

As a general rule, basically any vintage car that is worth less then the restoration cost it needs is a bad math car. Also all new Ferraris in the first 6-12 months are good math cars (assuming the new/used premium based on demand out stripping supply), in year 2 onwards they become bad math cars subject to the usual laws of depreciation. The exception are the Supercars (288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo) which are normally good math cars.
