Default Female Ferrari Owners

Hey Granucci - stop the perv stuff. There are some of us gals out there....

Melissa - I am in southern California, so won't be able to use your shop. Can you give me a helpful hint as a new Ferrari owner? I've only driven about 700 miles in my 1999 F355 F1 Spyder. How often should I check the fluid levels, and any input on engine oil brand? I know the owner's manual shows Shell Helix 5w-40, but Shell ratings I read aren't great.

If you can help, I would appreciate it.

Any other female Ferrari owners out there?

I bought my dream car last year:

1999 F355 F1 Spyder
11k miles
Red with Tan Interior
No modifications

Looking forward to taking it out on a track in SoCal. Mainly stare at it in my garage, take it out, wash it, drive it for 30 minutes, cover it and put it back.

Any suggestions for a good car club near Valencia, CA would be appreciated.

Welcome to FL, meandmyF355. Being in SoCal, F355 Spyder would be a splendid car to own. There are enough car enthusiasts locally to welcome you for drives and get togethers. Enjoy your car more and do let us know of your impressions and so forth. Looking forward to your comments and inputs. w/ smiles Jimmy

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Sonoma - awesome place. I grew up in Walnut Creek.

Track near here is Willow Springs, but I noticed recently that a rollbar is now required. I don't have that, or loops. So will look further.

I feel like a nerd, but don't know what switch to redline is (that's a subway here....). Off to look at my manual.

Hi, welcome! You've bought yourself a very nice car, indeed. Any chance of posting a few pictures of it?

Just wondering whether driving the F355 for 30 min. at a time is the greatest of ideas. For one, it is a driver's car (like any Ferrari, I'ld say), so why not drive it a little longer?

On the less semantic side, you might consider the following: it takes some 20-30 miles to warm these things up properly (oil throughout the system, at the right temperature, etc.). This being the stretch of time you shouldn't be pushing it over say 3,000-3,500 RPM - meaning you cannot be going very fast yet - by the time the car is properly warmed up, you just about pull the plug. Seems a bit of a shame!

Personally, I prefer 60-80 mile drives at least, implying a minimum of an hour to an hour and a half on the road each time 'round (allowing for today's reality of moving out of and into town at a slug's pace and the occasional traffic jam along the way, that is).
.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course. That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mister F.

I use Shell Helix in mine and have never had any problems. Use both 5w 40 and 10w 60.

Thank you for the oil recommendation, Boxer.

IPF - I got your message and good points. I will get in to the mode of more driving, less thinking about hurting my baby. Thank you for your comments!

Hey Ferrari Girl...nice to see more women out there driving Italian...We have never had any issues with the Helix...we use it in every Ferrari...but Mobil 1 is also a good replacement if you dont like the Helix....Just make sure u change the oil every 3,000 miles...its the best insurance and check the oil ever few hund miles...also on the spider make sure u have the hydrolic oil for the soft-top checked annually as the levels tends to drop below minimum and u get air in the system causing problems u dont want to deal with.

any other issues
feel free to ask or call...

Hadn't heard of that on the 360 spiders. How do you check the level?

Hey Boxer,
Between the two seats is the cover for the top hydrolic pump and resevoir. If you remove the cover you will be able to see the resevoir. It should be a 1/4-1/2 way full from the bottom.
If you have any other questions..don't hesitate

Redline = motor oil etc. Great products, and since switching I've had no reason to think otherwise. http://www.redlineoil.com/

she has a 355 also

might want to contact her too and read her threads, she pops in every once in awhile.

ROLLBAR: Reason I don't track the Mondial T. Knew someone who did, cabriolet, but it doesn't make sense to me in a 2+2. WOULD like a track car, but it would have to be an engine in type, as couldn't afford the track tuning on a engine in car [348/355 etc.]

Was going to track the 456 also, but don't like the hard cornering it gave so sold the extra set of wheels and have much fun with it as a GT only.

Hello everyone. I am new to the site but not new to Ferrari. I am a huge fan and a fan of Formula 1. I am looking to get back into the automotive industry after a long career in sales and if there are any dealerships or independent shops looking for an apprentice technician or if some one you know is looking please contact me.

I'm also very good with computers and I am always doing research and keeping up with new technologies in the automotive field. I live in Northern NJ and I am also very close to New York. My email is f1mech@aol.com.

Thanks!
